WOW – finally a great-tasting lean burger! Chopped mushrooms and milk are added for extra juiciness, and Worcestershire sauce is a super-simple seasoning. Use a moderate heat for grilling to avoid scorching.

 1 egg, lightly beaten
¼ cup (60 mL) EACH finely chopped onion and mushrooms
¼ cup (60 mL) evaporated milk
2 tbsp (30 mL) Worcestershire Sauce
 1 clove garlic, minced
 Pepper, to taste
1 lb (500 g) Extra Lean or Lean Ground Beef
½ cup (125 mL) dry bread crumbs

Combine egg, onion, mushrooms, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic and pepper, to your taste, in a bowl with a fork. Mix in beef and bread crumbs. Gently form into six 3/4-inch (2 cm) thick patties. Press a dimple into the centre of each patty. Place onto a lightly oiled parchment- or foil-lined rimmed baking sheet; cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or for up to 1 day.

2

Grill patties in a closed preheated barbecue over medium-high heat (400°F/200°C) for 10 to 14 minutes, turning twice, or until digital instant-read thermometer inserted sideways into centre of each patty reads 160°F (71°C).

Tip: Ground beef comes designated as Extra Lean, Lean, Medium or Regular, based on the maximum fat content. This designation is the same for all ground meats: beef, turkey, veal, chicken, pork and lamb.
