Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada the “heart of Canadian beef country” sharing the passion for food has been a lifelong pursuit. Formally cultivated with 2 years studying at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) followed a formal European style apprenticeship enjoying 8 years of working my way up the culinary ladder as Chef with Imperial Oil and at Fairmont Hotels and other venues including as part of the Culinary team working at the Canmore Nordic Center during the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary. I successfully achieved my CCC - Certified Chefs de Cuisine designation in 1991.
I have enjoyed working with Canada’s beef industry for the last 23 years showcasing the high quality products our beef industry produces with pride though my work with the Alberta Beef Producers, Beef Information Centre and now with Canada Beef as The Director of the Canadian Beef Centre of Excellence I now lead a team that engage clients from Canada and around the world to build a better understanding of the Canadian Beef Brand and driving Canada Beef’s ability to “create, collaborate and inspire” in this world class facility.

Abe Van Melle
Abe van Melle has been in the Retail Meat Trade for over 40 years, first developing his skills in a butcher shop in Saskatchewan breaking down sides of beef and learning the trade from the ground floor. Abe then went on to work at Canada Safeway in Calgary where he worked his way from butcher to Meat Manager. Prior to coming to Canada Beef Abe worked as the lead instructor at The Southern Institute of Technology in the Butchery Program. In the last few years at SAIT Abe helped develop and evolve the butchery program into a program that included butchery and charcuterie. Abe now works at Canada Beef, with the Canadian Beef Centre of Excellence team helping develop and deliver customized beef programs to Canadian Beef clients in both the domestic and foreign markets. The Canadian Beef Centre of Excellence allows Canada Beef to connect with clients and showcase a world class product produced without compromise by the 68,500.00 producers across Canada.

Queenie has over 8 years of experience in the food service and hospitality industry. Queenie has developed event management and marketing experience through her volunteer work. She joined Canada Beef in 2016 as the Coordinator for the Canadian Beef Centre of Excellence. She enjoys the thrill of events and the variety they offer, she is known as our Chaos Delegator. In her spare time Queenie is a life student continuing her education and pursing her Psychology degree.

Claudia has been an integral part of Canada Beef’s team since 2004 when the organization established its footprint in Mexico.
Ms Herrera-Blanc obtained her B.Sc. in Business Administration at the Technological Institute of Higher Studies of Monterrey . Her role with Canada Beef has evolved from operations early in her career where she managed resources of Canadian Beef producers, to becoming instrumental to Canada Beef’s business and market development team.
As a business developer, Claudia has led the development of the Hispanic communications platform for Canada Beef and she has also led brand marketing partnerships and strategic alliances with Mexico’s Foodservice industry; projects that have been conducive at positioning the Canadian Beef Brand by its world class attributes within Mexico’s white tablecloth operations.

Tayla is all about ranchy roots and fancy boots! Her family goes back seven generations of raising cattle, and she is excited to share the story of our nation’s agricultural producers with our community of beef lovers. Tayla’s family still ranches in southern Alberta, with operations near Bassano and Gem.

Between providing support to Business Development and keeping the Canada Beef Office East humming, Shelly has a passion for organization and detail that is second to none. While other kids were playing House or Store, Shelly was busy playing Office – one of the first purchases she saved her money for was to buy a Swingline™ stapler – at even that young age, she recognized the value of a good brand. Shelly has applied her skills in the past to building data base systems and currently keeps the Operations Plan running for Canada Beef. Always on the look-out for efficiencies, Shelly completed 2 moves in one year for the Mississauga office, both, without a missed beat or hiccup. Shelly finds it forever interesting to talk about food and cooking which fuels her personal interest in Canadian beef.
