Burger Cook-off surprise secret ingredient – Think Elvis

As part of our Canadian beef Family Dinner launch event at the Canadian Beef Centre of Excellence April 6, media celebrity Andrew Schultz came out with his 2 girls Casey and Sydney to take on the Burger Cook-off Challenge. Although they didn’t win, their burger was my personal favourite. Their burger had one of those flavour combos that you can’t quite identify — a ‘je ne sais quoi’ quality. The beef flavour was still the star. Thanks for sharing Andrew!

The girls got some ‘screen time’ with The Roundup app. They loved the Cuts by Colour.

RECIPE BACKSTORY:

  • the recipe is not Andrew’s- it was a winning recipe from a cook-off held on Breakfast Television years ago. The woman who won was kind enough to share it with them – and they shared it with their viewers – it is credited to Paul Eckersley

SECRET INGREDIENT:

  • peanut butter + Chinese Five Spice seasoning. The PB is the link to Elvis! You really don’t taste the peanut butter but it adds a certain richness. The Five Spice makes the flavour interesting but not overpowering.
  • Andrew chose a blend of chuck and brisket for a super flavourful ground beef

I call it the PB & B Burger (that’s Peanut Butter and Beef Burger). Give it a try and let us know what you think!

1 lb of Ground Beef

2 tbsp of Peanut Butter

3 tbsp of Soy Sauce

1 tsp of Sriracha or Sambal Chili Sauce

1 garlic clove (minced)

1 zest of lime

3 tsp of balsamic vinegar

1 tsp of Chinese Five Spice seasoning

(Add: 1 egg, 1/4 cup bread crumbs – and a pinch of salt & pepper)
